By the time of his passing in 1986 at the age of ninety-five, Rabbi Kamenetsky had been regarded as one of the preeminent  gedolei hador  (great men of the generation) for decades in the American yeshiva world. Although Rosenblum’s biography did not trade in miracles or unbelievable coincidences, it presented a now familiar version of haredi history. It was the life of a tzaddik, or saint, who, the jacket copy said, “had the uncanny ability to marshal the entire breadth of his encyclopedic Torah knowledge” in order to answer “every question and problem” that was brought to him.
