GALLERY: Munkatcher Rebbe Meets Williamsburg Rebbes Ahead of Shabbos Visit

The Munkatcher Rebbe shlit”a met with three Rebbes Tuesday night in Williamsburg ahead of his planned Shabbos with his chassidim there. While the Rebbe rarely travels, it is exceptionally uncommon for him to spend Shabbos away from his Boro Park home.

The Rebbe met with his brother, the Dinover Rebbe shlit”a, the Satmar Rebbe of Kiryas Yoel shlit”a, and the Viener Rebbe shlit”a.

He writes that this prohibition is NOT applicable here (meaning wearing the wedding band is permissible) because there is no law or statute amongst non-Jews to wear a wedding band after a man gets married. That is the conclusion of two new genetic surveys, the first to use genome-wide scanning devices to compare many Jewish communities around the world. A major surprise from both surveys is the genetic closeness of the two Jewish communities of Europe, the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim. The Ashkenazim thrived in Northern and Eastern Europe until their devastation by the Hitler regime, and now live mostly in the United States and Israel. The Sephardim were exiled from Spain in 1492 and from Portugal in 1497 and moved to the Ottoman Empire, North Africa and the Netherlands.
