"Kindness from the Heart" When the media person noticed the son helping his elderly father in the synagogue, he did not imagine that behind the routine appearance was hidden a completely different human drama


During morning prayers in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem, media personality Yirach Toker was exposed to an extraordinary human gesture that moved him. What began as a routine sight of a son helping his elderly father turned out to be a story of unconditional giving by a complete stranger.


While at a local synagogue, Toker noticed an elderly Jew devotedly assisting an elderly person during prayer. At first glance, it seemed like a close family bond between a son and his father, but a brief conversation there revealed a surprising picture: the two do not know each other at all.

It turns out that this is a man who decided every day during morning prayers to wholeheartedly assist an elderly person who is unable to hear the cantor's words during prayer, helping him follow along from the siddur.

He writes that this prohibition is NOT applicable here (meaning wearing the wedding band is permissible) because there is no law or statute amongst non-Jews to wear a wedding band after a man gets married. That is the conclusion of two new genetic surveys, the first to use genome-wide scanning devices to compare many Jewish communities around the world. A major surprise from both surveys is the genetic closeness of the two Jewish communities of Europe, the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim. The Ashkenazim thrived in Northern and Eastern Europe until their devastation by the Hitler regime, and now live mostly in the United States and Israel.
