This is how they lied to the rabbis who signed "against" Maran Gerail Steinman
About two decades after the stirring letter from senior rabbis about the "recruitment tracks" of the 'Tal Committee', which was presented as an objection to the opinion of Maran ztzu"l - the truth is revealed • And also: How does this relate to dancing excitedly in front of him? (Haredim)

In the spring of 2010, a heartwarming and unusual spectacle was witnessed at the conclusion of a yeshivah that had introduced a Torah scroll to a beit midrash in Bnei Brak: two men of great age, distinguished rabbis, danced together in front of the honor of the Maran Rosh Ha-Yashvi, the Grail Steinman, ztzu'l.
Few, if any, knew what lay behind this unusual sight. Here, in "Kikar Hashabbat," the ideological, political - and no less personal - drama, some of the details of which stirred the Torah world in those days, is now being revealed for the first time. Here is the sequence of events, in a first publication:
A few months earlier, the Tal Committee, established as part of the coalition agreement between United Torah Judaism and the Barak government, began to sit and discuss formulating a law that would allow the continuation of the arrangement for deferring the status of yeshivot students vis-à-vis the military authorities. The great men of Israel, headed by the Marnan HaGaris Elyashiv and the Grail Steinman, sent two representatives to the committee: Rabbi Asher Tenenbaum, chairman of the yeshivot committee at the time, and Rabbi Mordechai Karelitz, a trusted member of the great men of the generation.
As is known, and as attested to by the close associate of the Maran HaGrai'l, Rabbi Yosef Yekutiel Efrati, the Posk Hador completely trusted the Maran HaGrai'l in all matters of recruitment, and even expressed himself more than once that he felt "a duty of gratitude to Rabbi Aharon Leib" for this.
But there were always people of contention and debate, and they "marked" the Maran Grail as a compromiser on the sensitive issue, despite his denial in his well-known letter to the supervisor, the Grail Segal, in connection with the Haredi Nahal affair. Some of them then set themselves the goal of getting important yeshiva heads from the Lithuanian public to sign against the "paths" - alternative recruitment options (one of the main issues discussed by the Tal Committee) - and thus present the Maran Grail's position as a single opinion in his "agreement" to compromise on the matter.

Indeed, in the month of Adar, a scathing letter about the "danger of the tracks" was published in the streets, and many in the public rubbed their eyes in astonishment at the sight of the names of the senior yeshiva heads whose signatures were inscribed in the margins of the letter, due to the fact that several of them were already known at that time as followers of Maran ztzukal's opinion.
The person who most hurt the Maran's feelings about signing the letter was his longtime friend, member of the Council of Torah Scholars and Rosh Yeshiva of Sloboda, Rabbi Baruch Rosenberg, zt"l, a native of the town of Brisk - the Maran's birthplace - and a resident of his neighborhood of Zichron Meir in Bnei Brak. Because of this, the Grav later went to Maran's residence, from where he heard his claim that "one does not sign before one inquires," and apologized to him appropriately.

Now it turns out, as revealed for the first time in "Kikar Hashabbat," that the rabbis' signatures were obtained through complete fraud. And this is how things went: The activists who went to the yeshiva heads' homes made it clear to them that "this is something internal, just to prove to the secular committee members how much the position of the Haredi representatives on the committee is already a huge compromise on our part, that 'here they are rising up against us on Haredi Street.'"
They even explicitly assured the rabbis that their signature was a purely tactical, sly matter, and that it would in no way be published outside the walls of the Tal Committee.
Of course, as mentioned, this was a complete deception, and as soon as these activists finished the round of signing, they published the letter under every green tree, with the signatures of the Gra"d Lando, the Gra"r"a Hirsch, the Gra"r"i Scheiner and the Gra"r"m Ezrachi, as well as the Gra"r"v Rosenberg, the Gra"a Weintraub, the Gra"r"a Finkel, the Gra"r"i Bornstein zt"l and others, most of whom are famous and known to everyone for their admiration for the Gra"l's teacher zt"l and their absolute submission to the knowledge of his Torah.

Some time later, a very impressive ceremony took place, the introduction of a Torah scroll to the yeshiva of Erchot Torah, headed by the Maran. The Rabbi Rosenberg took the time to attend the celebration, shook hands with the Grachash Karelitz zt"l (founder of "She'erit Yisrael"), who was also a friend and admirer of the Maran, and together with him began a dance that was all about abnegation and submission in front of the greatest of the generation, in order to demonstrate to all his true opinion regarding the correct leadership of the Rosh Yeshiva zt"l, who passed away 30 days ago.
